This is my first attempt to summarize a mail bait.
As I'm not too good with words (and to be honest a little lazy ) I asked my gpt-buddy who assisted me in writing to the lad, to sum it up as well for you (I hope that's ok here).
M = me
Barry = scammer
October 27, 2024 - 8:41 PM
Barry sends the first email, announcing M's "overdue fund" of a cool $10 million, which he claims has been gathering dust at the Ministry. All M needs to do is pay a "government stamp duty and Oath fee" of $480. Simple, right? Barry’s laying it on thick with formalities, hoping to reel M in.
October 28, 2024 - 3:37 AM
M responds enthusiastically, thrilled by the mysterious ten million bucks. Introducing himself as a curious beneficiary, he gently hints at the hurdles of paying the government fee and wonders about the steps to get these riches rolling into his bank. M's definitely hooked – or at least Barry thinks so.
October 28, 2024 - 8:12 AM
Barry doubles down, explaining that the payment of the government fee is absolutely, utterly, non-negotiable. He provides an elaborate explanation, complete with fake legal processes and a Nigerian contact named "XXX" for M to wire the cash to. Barry even throws in a “Certificate of Origin” as a little extra incentive.
October 28, 2024 - 10:56 AM
M replies, sympathizing with Barry’s need for “legitimate government fees.” He explains a tiny hiccup with local transfer restrictions, politely requesting Barry’s direct bank details so he can proceed smoothly. M is practically begging to hand over that $4800... by a mistake he added another 0 to rise Barry's interest!
October 28, 2024 - 9:32 PM
Barry’s ready to make it happen – this time with a new bank account in the U.S. in the name of "XXXX" He tells M to pay $4800 (he gladly took the bait) for that “stamp duty and Oath fee” (a rather steep increase) and requests M’s bank details, phone number, and ID – you know, just to keep things “official.” Barry’s definitely excited for his payday.
October 28, 2024 - 10:20 PM
M tries to transfer the $4800, but oh no – “technical issues” prevent it! He includes a “picture-not-available.jpg” error, saying his bank’s picky. Could Barry maybe confirm the bank details? M suggests the issue might be due to a small typo. How considerate of him!
November 1, 2024 - 1:45 PM
Barry responds with new payment details for M – this time with a Wise account under the name "XXX". Barry reassures M that this option will be "easier," and he’s clearly growing impatient for that receipt! He also sneaks in another request for M’s phone number, bank details, and photo ID – can’t be too careful with ten million on the line, after all.
... couple of Emails from Barry in between with the same content (that's kinda lazy)
November 2, 2024 - 8:40 AM
M expresses confusion about why Barry’s empty emails are landing in spam – maybe it’s a “tech glitch”? Ever eager to appease Barry, M assures him that he’s diligently trying to get that $4800 across. M hopes Barry might actually respond this time instead of blank emails! M may or may have not sent him a grab-link with an error message.. who knows
let's see what the future holds
