PRETEXT: This one scammer on a local Buy/Sale Facebook page keeps advertising Duct Cleaning services. The post is sketchy in that he doesn't live in my county and live out of state... or according to his Facebook page he says he lives in a different state. After conversing with this guy on an alternate account I use for Scambaiting it is VERY VERY likely this guy is not in the US as he claims. The tells he gives are very hard to miss but obvious if you look out for them. I talked to this scammer on an alt account used ONLY for scambaiting and was NOT done on my main/real account.

How many AC units do you have? And can i have your house size and zip code
NOTE: Off to a good start with this scam, nothing says legit company like ignoring what your customer asks. This question also confuses me, how many AC units do you have? Most Americans only have the one for their home. Also a slight nit pick... "House size"? Most of us in America say "What size is your Home" and I feel someone who actually lived in the USA would of asked "Can I have your Home size..."

NOTE: Scammer unsent messages of him stating the next day he could provide me services. It was kind of random to have him delete them as it was pretty much "My next available appointment is May 13th...". I decided to put some spin on my bait to make it seem I was legit and not instantly agree to the first date and request a different day for my servicing.

I'm so sorry our next slots is already full till 12th, June!

Service takes around 60 to 90 Minutes Only
James
You cak take anytime between 9am to 6pm on 13th, May
NOTE: Already the spelling mistakes... also check out how he formats the Date and Month in his messages. In America we always give the month first and THEN the date. "Hey Peter, the family is coming in to town, do you want to go to the park with us on June 3rd?". This person is CONSTANTLY putting the date before the month, which is a sign that this scammer isn't living in the US state he claimed on his profile.

June 14th then. How about 1 pm?
James
How about 13th, June? It will be highly Appreciated
NOTE: Again the date was given before the month... also the wording on "It will be highly appreciated". I feel many Americans would say "It would be highly appreciated" and also notice this scammer will from time to time capitalize some words randomly and not capitalize others. I have a feeling this scammer googled the word "Appreciated" as they weren't 100% sure of it's spelling... and then copy and pasted the response they got... not noticing that when you do that the translator will often capitalize the first letter of that word they give you.

For the reservation purpose can i have your complete house address and cell number
NOTE: The wording of his response... and once again his refusal to capitalize the word "I". In his response he says "For the reservation purpose...." which is also a tell he isn't in the US as he claims on his profile. In America we would say "For reservation purposes can..."

*I gave him one of my burner phone numbers*
You sent
*Address of Police Department for the Zip Code I decided to use earlier*
NOTE: I gave him the police station address to see how he would react, considering he never did say it only had to be a residential address to be "Cleaned". I feel most legit companies would not have any problems with a bit of commercial or government jobs, as they also have AC units and systems.
James
One day before the we will let you know the exact timing according to the route
NOTE: "One day before the we will let you...." Seems like the scammer forgot to put in a word in his reply. Also again a minor nit pick... "We will let you know the exact timing according to the route"... in the US we would of used the word "Time" instead of timing in this sentence.
James
Thank You so much 😊

I was about to reply that I was an assistant for the finance officer but the scammer had already blocked me. Given his response and blocking... I am fairly confident he didn't want to clean my air ducts but he wanted to drain my cleanout my bank account. I gave him the information I did to also prevent him from possibly attempting identity theft as your name (from your profile), Phone number and home address are useful to commit identity theft. I also choose one of my many burner phone numbers not attached to a fake Facebook account so he can't attempt to use my phone number/address to try and steal my Facebook account. Usually though with this scam, they will have you pay a deposit before the services or if they actually do the job will do a half hearted attempt to clean them and still charge you for full services.
If you google Air Duct Cleaning Scam you will find that this is a scam that's done a lot. Sharing details of this bait with fellow baiting friends of mine have commented that they are aware of some buy/sell/trade sites and Facebook groups ban anyone from even posting Air Duct Cleaning. Evidently this scam is pretty popular, I personally haven't had any experience with it and I attempted to bait this scammer to see what they would do to attempt to get some sort of gain for themselves out of this... at my expense obviously.
I know I was also nit picking earlier... but look at the way he writes, it is obvious to anyone in America that this guy does NOT live in the US as he claims on his profile.
