Over the years, many scammers have used the "someone says you're dead and is claiming your funds" script, mainly on Captain Mal.
Here's one with a slight twist, as you'll see.
The scammer's emails are date-stamped; his name has been changed. My comments are in bold.

My dear,
Please permit me to bother you a little. We have a very disturbing
situation here concerning the state of your funds release. Two people who bear the same surname with you have come up with claims that you had an accident and died in the process. They both claim to be your next of kin and we wondered how two people could be named NEXT OF KIN at the same time. We became suspicious and decided to contact you in case you are alive as we have witnessed severally in the past.
If you are alive, please send to me urgently the following:
1. Your full names, company and address.
2. A copy of your Photo ID.
3. Your direct phone/whatssapp number.
Thank you and be blessed.
Yours faithfully,
Rose Effah.
Special Assistant to the President on Financial and Economic Matters.

I think I'll send this one off to my other persona, Brad.
Ms Effah
I'm not dead, as should be obvious, and FYI my NOK (my daughter) doesn't have the same last name. But that's not what's important.
What is important is that you contacted the wrong person. The Morgan estate isn't mine (as also should be obvious); you should have contacted Brian Morgan's brother, not me.

Thank you for your reply. Dear, I have not contacted the wrong person, I contacted the right person via the email available in the file record of this transaction. your email was found right in there and that was why i wrote to you. So do not get confused, the fund is yours and your attention is required to process it and have it released to you.
You do not know what you have made right here by your response. It was confusing here and the tension went high as two people suddenly came up for a claim of a certain $10.5million inheritance funds which was statutorily deposited in your name.
The deposit is due for release, we were still waiting for you to come up for the release process before these men came up and were claiming to be your relatives.
Now your reply has proven that you are alive and healthy as against what those two suspects said. I was able to reach out to you via your email which was found in the file of your inheritance/fund deposit.
Please dear note that we did not attend to those men as that is against professional working ethics. Our efforts to reach you have now yielded positive results. We want to officially inform you here that your $10.5million deposit is due for release and your attention is needed to process it and have it transferred to your designated account.
We will need your presence or that of your attorney to come and sign all the fund release related documentations during the process.
Please get back to me for more information and directives.
I am looking forward to your compliance.
Thank you!
Rose.
Ms Effah
It's obvious that you're talking about the Morgan estate, and the POA I held expired when Brian died. You have to contact Brad, not me. Or I can ask him to write to you. What would suit?
As well, the money should never have been deposited under my name. Actually, you might consider investigating whoever arranged that. There could have been some kind of conspiracy to embezzle the money.

Sir, this is a legitimate contract/inheritance funds statutorily deposited in your favour. your email address was intact in the file. it is not a conspiracy, or embezzlement. It is legal.
All we need from you is to come and sign all the documents for the fund release and then the fund will be processed and released to you.
I am saddled with the responsibility of vetting, verifying and processing your fund release and that is why I have been in communication with you. Please, it is a legit transaction.
Meanwhile, if the other person you mentioned is your relative and you want him to receive this fund on your behalf, you can contact him and give us a legal authorization to process the funds and transfer it to him. we would hour that sir.
But note that this fund belongs to you, you are the documented beneficiary. It is not a mistake. you are favoured.
Please get back to me.
Rose.

You expect me to believe that there's $10.5 million that I know nothing about coming to me from Ghana... and you're telling me that it's a contract/inheritance fund. Which is it? It can't be both!

Here's the twist! She's got a Ghanaian name, but now she's from Nigeria!

Your fund is not coming from Ghana sir. Your fund originated from Nigeria and will be paid by the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN.
Yes it is always surprising and disbelieving when a beneficiary is contacted for his fund.
You don't have to be surprised or doubtful. Nigeria is the 6th oil producing country in the world if I am not mistaken. There were and there are still a lot of allied companies here like Shell, Shevron, Agip etc, these are incharge of harnessing our oil since 1960. so a lot of the Engineers//workers allocate/deposit some parts of their funds for future generation and that is when one is contacted, he/she will be astonished. but it is happening.
So do not doubt, it is real. you will see all by yourself. only comply with the payment directives and we will do the rest.
Thank you.

I don't understand your explanation. Seriously, I don't understand it.

Ok, it is as simple as this, sir, you have an inheritance deposit in your favour here. valued at $10.5m, it is due for release, and some people came to play smart to divert it. But when we check the file, we found out that they were crooks, the fund does not belong to them. The fund is yours. So we handed them over to police. And in the police custody they have confessed that it was not really their money, that they were paid for by some insiders to come and claim the funds because you have not shown up for the claims and those who are supposed to contact you earlier purpose refused to because they have ulterior motive. All of them have been arrested and charged to court.
So I took over and that is why I have been in communication with you. I hope you understand the whole thing now.
So your fund is due for release and it needs to be processed and the process requires your presence or that of your attorney to come and sign all the fund release related documents. And once that is done, your $10.5m will be duly processed and released to you via any means preferably by you.
I think I have thrown in more light now, you have understood it now right? Please I am waiting for your total compliance to proceed.
Thank you!
Rose.

You're missing the point. I don't care about how those people came to claim the money. What matters is this; "so a lot of the Engineers//workers allocate/deposit some parts of their funds for future generation and that is when one is contacted, he/she will be astonished. but it is happening" - so someone works in Nigeria back in the 1960s and deposits his money there, in my name... and leaves it for over 50 years? Are you being serious, ma'am?

Please when you read, try and read all over again to understand the exact meaning. I never said someone deposited this fund in 1960, I said foreign companies have been harnessing oil and gas here since 1960. do not take me out of context.
your fund was deposited in 2012 not 1960. There is a deposit certificate of this fund which you will as well retrieve during the process. it is boldly written therein.
I think because your mind is already set on negativity about this, you hardly believe what i am saying. I pray you can make your way down here.

If I seem to be "set on negativity", it's for a reason, and not just for shits and giggles.
I've never worked in Nigeria, or for Nigeria. None of my bloodkin has ever worked in Nigeria, or for Nigeria. I don't know anyone who ever worked in Nigeria, or for Nigeria.
That makes your comment about "Engineers//workers [who] allocate/deposit some parts of their funds for future generation" meaningless.

I just gave you instances on how some inheritance originated. Get it right from me. I never said your bloodkin has worked here. Even when it is possible. All the oil companies here are allied. So what makes it impossible?
I just got to know that the fund belong to the details attached to it and the instruction says that I should contact the beneficiary via the email address available in the details. I think I have explained this before.
Rose.

Here's a bigger issue; I didn't know about this money, so how come those two bunco-steerers know about it?
